THE FIRSTLOOK360 ADVANTAGES

The latest development of the innovative Firstlook360 rescue camera can, in addition to the normal wireless mode, be operated with a cable at a distance of up to 100 meters. It gives the rescuers the possibility to penetrate accordingly deep into the structure or to operate accordingly far away from the danger zone.

The hybrid rescue camera called FIRSTLOOK360 (FL360) stitches together numerous live spherical streams using two cameras and specially created software to provide a seamless imaging panorama that can be watched, analyzed, and altered on a mobile device (tablet or smartphone). The digital video images are also transferred in HD resolution and can be sent wirelessly or over wires to an Android mobile device.

Another fantastic advantage of this latest technology rescuecamera is the ability to later examine the footage over the entire 360-degree area. Since the rescuecamera captures the complete spherical video, not only the corresponding video sections can be examined, but the entire recording. Third parties, such as the incident commander, can then freely search the entire 360-degree view, greatly increasing the likelihood of a successful search.

In some cases, certain rescue cameras have moving elements to provide a 360-degree view. Functions such as focus and zoom are made possible by the sensitive elements. Devices with so many moving parts carry the risk of being damaged during a rescue and search operation under uncertain circumstances. If a rescue camera is damaged at this point, the rescue operation will often have to be aborted until a replacement rescue camera is available. The Firstlook360 has no moving parts and is therefore better able to withstand the harshest operating conditions

In addition, an intercom function with a microphone and speaker in the rescue camera allows communication with the patient or victim or receiving sounds out of the structure. Modern rescue cameras must provide you with the ability to communicate with patients and victims to increase the chances of a successful rescue

A secure and stable wireless connection between the rescue camera and tablet cannot be established for every rescue mission. FIRSTLOOK360 rescue cameras can also be operated with cables up to 100 meters long to establish a stable and interference-tolerant connection with the search and rescue camera so that rescue missions can be carried out successfully.

Firstlook360 rescue cameras have the advantage of being able to penetrate into the smallest cavities and provide a very good and well illuminated image on the screen thanks to the built-in powerful LED lighting. LED lighting provides 360-degree illumination of your surroundings, saving battery power and extending the life of your rescue camera compared to conventional lighting. LED lighting technology also reduces weight, making the rescue camera easier to use during rescue operations.

In addition, the FIRSTLOOK360 rescue camera can be used underwater and can be easily converted for this use and prepared for longer underwater rescue missions. The rescue camera can also be operated with standard camera equipment without damaging the device.

The modern and innovative design of the FIRSTLOOK360 rescue camera enables uninterrupted operation, even if the batteries need to be replaced (hot-swap capability). FIRSTLOOK360 - DWRK1 - THE DRY WELL RESCUE KIT

The Dry Well Rescue Kit (DWRK) from FirstLook is a specialized rescue system designed specifically for operations in deep, narrow, vertical confined spaces such as dry wells, bore wells, utility shafts, caves, tunnels, and elevator pits. It provides rescue teams with a safe, fast, and highly effective way to visually inspect and communicate with individuals trapped in these challenging environments—without exposing rescuers to unnecessary danger.

At the heart of the kit is the FL360 LR (Long Range) Spherical Rescue Camera, which delivers full 360-degree imaging in real time. The camera can be lowered vertically into deep spaces using long-range tethered cables available in lengths up to 91 meters (300 feet). These rugged cables maintain a stable, high-quality connection to the tablet or control device, even at extreme depths.

The camera’s wide-angle imaging capability ensures that the entire environment—walls, floor, and ceiling—can be visually assessed without needing to pan or rotate the device. Combined with built-in LED lighting and infrared options, the system performs reliably even in total darkness. The camera also includes push-to-talk two-way audio, allowing rescuers to establish communication with a trapped person and offer reassurance or instructions.

The control and display unit—typically a rugged tablet—is connected directly to the camera and provides a live video feed with zoom, image controls, and media capture options. Operators can save still images or video clips, tag important frames, and share footage with other team members or command units on site.

The kit also includes deployment accessories such as reels, mounting hardware, and protective transport cases, allowing teams to quickly deploy the system in a stable and controlled manner. The equipment is built for field conditions, with weather-resistant components that can operate in dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures.

This rescue kit is particularly valuable in regions where borewell incidents are common, or in urban search and rescue (USAR) settings where vertical access is required and structural safety is uncertain. The ability to perform a non-invasive assessment of a scene dramatically improves operational safety, speeds up decision-making, and increases the chances of a successful outcome.

The FL360 Long Range (LR) Cables are a new addition to the USAR LR Kit. These cables allow the search team to lower the camera vertically into ventilated confined spaces or extend its reach within structures or voids to distances of 30 meters (100 feet) or 91 meters (300 feet).

These cables are not included in the standard USAR LR Kit and are available as optional accessories, offering expanded operational capabilities for the FL360 system.

NOTE: The FL360 Long Range (LR) Cables are not compatible with older non-LR RSK or MRK kits. Please contact us to verify whether your FL360 camera supports these new cable options.

VERTICAL CAMERA USE OR HORIZONTAL USE

The ability to switch between vertical and horizontal modes on a camera system such as FirstLook is extremely important for effective use in a wide range of scenarios. This feature allows users to adapt the camera flexibly to the spatial conditions, whether in narrow shafts, narrow passageways, or large rooms.

Why is this important?

In real-world applications, such as search and rescue operations, in safety-critical environments, or during technical inspections, clear spatial orientation is crucial. A camera that switches automatically or manually between vertical and horizontal views significantly reduces the cognitive load on the operator. The perspective adapts to the environment – not the other way around. This improves understanding of the situation on site, prevents misunderstandings, and allows decisions to be made faster and with greater confidence.

With this feature, FirstLook actively contributes to efficiency and safety. Orientation in the room becomes more intuitive, deployment more dynamic, and the system as a whole more user-friendly – a clear advantage in time-critical or confusing situations.

If a camera system does not have the ability to switch between vertical and horizontal modes, this results in several specific disadvantages that can directly affect usability and safety:

  • Difficult orientation
    Without automatic or manual image adjustment, the camera image remains in a fixed orientation. This quickly leads to confusion in unfamiliar perspectives – for example, when the ceiling, floor, and walls are no longer clearly visible. Emergency personnel then have to mentally “rotate” the image, which costs time and can lead to misinterpretations.

  • Higher cognitive load
    The operator must continuously try to correctly interpret what they see – especially in stressful situations or when visibility is poor. This leads to mental overload, especially when quick decisions are required. The result: slower response times and an increased potential for errors.

  • Loss of search efficiency
    If the camera system does not adapt to the operating environment, this can lead to detours or unnecessary movements because certain areas are poorly visible or not visible at all. This means a clear loss of time, especially in narrow, winding locations such as pipes, shafts, or building structures.

  • Potential danger to emergency personnel
    Misjudgments of the environment – for example, due to incorrect image alignment – can lead to risky decisions. This is particularly true for operations in hazardous areas, where every second and every movement counts.
